Tortoiseshell fan, the guards are mother of pearl. Sticks and guards are pierced, engraved and applied with golden foils
The paper leaf is painted the story of Alexander hte Great, after the painting Alexandre and his doctor by the painter Eustache le Sueur (circa 1648).
Good condition (small restaoration in back of leaf, gards are repaired)

The story of Alexander the Great and his doctor, Philip, is told by many ancient authors. Plutarch relates how, after Alexander fell ill, one of his generals wrote him a letter warning that Philip, Alexander's doctor and old friend, had been corrupted by the Persian enemy. Alexander nevertheless trusted Philip and fearlessly drank the medicine which the latter had prepared.
