Fan, the leaf in fine painted skin of Apollo guiding the chariot of the Sun and preceded by Aurora, based on the Baroque fresco painted in 1613-14 by Guido Reni for the Casino of the Palazzo Pallavicini in Rome.
Very rich and delicate grotesque decoration, reminiscent of the ancient frescoes of Pompeii but also those of Italian Renaissance palaces, composed of chimerical figures (winged horses with seahorse tails, sphinxes with women's heads, swans, half rams with claws, a crouching sage) amid arabesques and floral interlacing.
Mother-of-pearl sticks and guards carved, pierced, engraved, burgundy and applied with gold and silver leaf.
Good condition (discreet old restoration to the guard, small tears and stains to the leaf with restorations to the reverse).
