On the front, in a style reminiscent of ancient classicism and the Grand Tour, the initial B illuminated and surrounded by the winged caryatids of Music and Poetry, surmounted by a date 1883 and surmounting an excerpt from a poem by Sully Prudhomme (L'agonie, in Les Solitudes in 1869): La musique apaise, enchante et délie des choses d'en bas. (Music soothes, enchants and releases things from below.)

Joseph Marie Cassien-Bernard was a French architect (1848-1926), a student of Charles Garnier, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and then in Paris and obtained a first class medal and the second prize of Rome. Member of the Society of French Artists, he is known for the plans of the Bank of Romania in Bucharest in 1882, the construction of the Opera-Comedy in Montpellier between 1883-88, the Alexandre III Bridge in Paris in 1896-1900 (with the architect Gaston Cousin), the Trianon-Theatre in Paris in 1902 as well as the entrance to the metro at the Opera station in 1904...
