Venus of the Waters, fan by Dubois Davesnes circa 1850-60
Fan, the skin leaf delicately painted with three cartels: a triumphant Venus and on either side putti celebrating love by playing music and throwing flowers.
The main medallion signed by the painter Masly Dubois Davesnes and the two cartels monogrammed MDD.
Rich Chinese work on sticks and guards, probably pre-dating the leaf (early 19th century?), very finely carved, pierced and engraved with flowers and birds, featuring a closed crown and the initials RR in the central medallion.
Condition: minor damage to fillets, guards and two sticks restored .
