Hidden wedding, three images fan, circa 1770-80
This fan is said to be double-sided or with transformation, that is to say showing the front and back in a classical opening but also being able to open from right to left and thus revealing a third image usually hidden.
The leaf of paper painted on one side two women spied by a gallant observe the love symbolized by a couple of turtledoves and on the other a chinoiserie very freely inspired by Boucher or Pillement. The third image, the one that is revealed, reveals the oath of love between the gallant and one of the beauties on the front of the fan.
Sticks and guards are engraved and applied with gold and silver leaves
