Giant fan, the wood and cardboard sticks and guards and silk leaf painted by the French artist Adolphe Willette.
It shows a cheerful Colombine (or Pierrette) sitting on a lightning bolt, kicking against convention (the bourgeoisie, Cabanel's teaching, which the artist received at the Beaux Arts for several years...), an Indian (or Apache!) kneels while a young pan player practices on the rooftops of Paris.
On the reverse, a galloping horse cavorts, nostrils smoking, with its trainer (who could be the artist himself) whose whip forms the name Willette.
