Pyrographed wood marquetry panel featuring the caricature of Pépin (artist Claude Guillaumin, known by his pseudonym Edouard Pépin, 1842-1927), which appeared in the satirical newspaper Le Grelot (no. 344, November 11, 1877) during the government reshuffle in the institutional crisis of the Third Republic, which pitted the monarchist President of the Republic, Mac Mahon, against the Republican-majority Chamber of Deputies led by Gambetta.
