Necessaire of the French actress Julia Bartet (Paris, 1854-1941) comprising a tortoiseshell comb, a pencil with a gold grip surmounted by an amethyst and a gold-edged mirror whose spine engraved with the actress's coat of arms can be used as a dance card.
A green shagreen case (mounted in gold, chased and silver) is adorned with the Divine's latin motto "Occulta redolens et quum lucens", her monogram JB and a radiating star on a gold background in rose-cut diamond.
The empty slot may have been intended for business cards.
Good overall condition (small dents to the comb).

Known throughout Paris as La Divine for herexcellence in every field, she was one of Sarah Bernhardt's great rivals during the Belle Epoque. A member of the Comédie-Française from 1880, she played the female lead in numerous plays until 1919, when she retired to devote herself to painting.
