Tortoiseshell snuffbox, the lid adorned with a gilded brass medallion celebrating the birth of the Duc de Bordeaux on September 29, 1820. (Henri d'Artois 1820-1883, then Count of Chambord in exile, Bourbon pretender to the throne of France under the name of Henri V).

Standing France, draped and helmeted, raises to the sky and a radiant cross, the young Duke of Bordeaux whom she helps to hold a lily, at her feet a downcast hydra.  Inscribed “DIEUDONNÉ RELIGION PATRIE - 29 7bre 1820”.  Design by Lafitte and Montagny and edited by Cahier, orfèvre du Roi.

Good condition (traces of oxidation and cracks to the shell on the reverse of the lid).
